City Councilmember Eric Dinowitz has represented District 11 since 2021. Born and raised in the North Bronx and now raising his family there, he previously worked as a special education teacher for twelve years and was a chapter leader in the United Federation of Teachers, and continues to be a passionate advocate for education.
He is a sitting member of the Committee on Standards and Ethics; the Committee on Civil Service and Labor; the Committee on Education; the Committee on Housing and Buildings; and the Subcommittee on Senior Centers and Food Insecurity. He is the Chair of the Jewish Caucus, as well as the Chair of the Committee on Higher Education and the co-Chair of the Taskforce to Combat Hate.
In that capacity, Dinowitz has organized oversight hearings into allegations of antisemitism in the CUNY system. As a Council member and as the chair of the Aging Committee on Community Board 8, Dinowitz had advocated for legislative and local efforts to ensure protections for seniors.
