Councilmember Susan Zhuang has represented District 43 since 2023, the first representative of the newly-drawn Asian-majority Southern Brooklyn district.
Originally from China, Zhuang advocates for the needs of New York City’s fast growing Asin-American minority, from expanding language services to improving public safety.
She sits on the Committee on Health; the Committee on Sanitation and Solid Waste Management; the Committee on Small Business; the Committee on Aging; the Committee on Environmental Protection, Resiliency & Waterfronts; and the Committee on Fire and Emergency Management. She is a member of the bipartisan Common-Sense Caucus as well as the Women’s Caucus and Black, Latino and Asian Caucus.
Zhuang was previously the chief of staff to Assembly Member William Colton, and is a member of the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association
