Ling Ye — Challenger

New York City Council District 38

Brooklyn

Red Hook, Park Slope, Sunset Park, Borough Park, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach

Opponent: Incumbent Alexa Avilés

Ling Ye is a mother and a community organizer. She immigrated to the US as a teenager and has been a resident of South Brooklyn since then. She grew up in Sunset Park and currently lives in Bensonhurst with her husband and daughter.

Ling went to the Cooper Union School of Engineering. Instead of becoming an engineer, she joined the public service to work with the working class and immigrant communities of South Brooklyn. She had worked under Council Member Carlos Menchaca, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, and Congressman Dan Goldman. During her decade-long public servant tenure, she used public funding projects such as Participatory Budgeting to engage and empower the grassroots community. She has a keen understanding of community members’ needs and is quick to address them. Whether it’s helping small businesses access government grants and programs, ensuring vulnerable community members get access to vital resources, or rallying support for communities experiencing violence and hate crime, Ling never backs down from advocating for her community.

She is running for the NYC Council District 38 seat, and she believes she will bring real representation for community members from all walks of life to this diverse and vibrant district.
